So we thought I should try to take some load off from her travelling 70 miles one way.
So yesterday we moved in (of portion of a week) to a very different world. A world I had once seen though momntarily when I stopped to get out of I-15 when there was too much of traffic.
The world of Fontana and trip from there to my office near LAX.
So from yesterday evening for the first time I tried all that LA provides as part of mass Transit. And so just to go to and from home to work I made a trip of over 140 miles that took 6 hours. Which basically meant I tried these
1. Car ride over the world largest Mass Transit Road to the Harbor Line Station for Silver Line - thanks Stan
2. Silver Line Bus Ride to Cal State LA
3. Metrolink train ride to Fontana
4. Rose finally giving me the ride to my 2nd Home in Fontana..
Time taken: from 5:40 PM to 8:40 PM
2. Trip from Fontana to Office near LAX
1. A sleepy Rose's drive to Rancho Cuchumango Metrolink Station. [Rose's Mind-Who the Hell gets up at 5:40 to go to work by 9 AM. I want the world to align so that I can sleep till 8:45 AM and go to work by 9 AM-that includes 5 minutes drive to work. And less than two minutes to get ready... Was there a miscalculation of time... we are still missing 15 -(5+2) = 8 minutes. Ohh that!!! That is snooze time to relax in the bed. To contemplate on should I go at 9 AM or 9:30 AM. My boss is good enough of accommodating my erratic timings.!!! Ohh did I forget breakfast... Ohhh that is done while driving... and SMSing to Shantanu.... and trying to find direction to the place on Google Map on iPhone... Should I be asked by Insurance company to be charged more premium..... Naaahhh... This is America... Everyone has a choice of how he can drive (read kill oneself or others)...
2. Metrolink train to Cal State LA.
3. Silverline train from Cal State LA to Greenline Harbor Station
4. Greenline Harbor Station to LAX/Avaition
5. 15 minutes walk to office.
Time: 5:50 AM to 8:50 AM
( This includes waiting for bus/train and Rose, should not be more than 30 odd minutes). So predominately was on the road. And considering I did not get any traffic snarls it ALL ROAD TIME... So a TOTAL OF 5:30 hrs of road time... Wow)
So I understand the destination took so much of stuff... That even for jsut hour of work..
And that is funny... I really enjoyed the whole expereince... Will be doing it months at strectch maybe not...
If I want to do it for weeks or maybe be few months .. YES
The reason as they say is not the destination but the journey and that is the reason I am writing the Blog...
It was one of those expereinces which will be for my granparents... When I can boast to say... I went from one portion of LA to another to come to office but still it took more than time than coming from Dallas.
When I finally saw the front of the Colloisum (though I have been here in LA for more than 3 years).
The arena for the last of the seperated/boycotted Olympics. The LA Olympic which most of us will remember as the first live telecast of Olympics Ceremony with culmination with cauldron was lighted by Rafer Johnson.
When instead of starting off my home with the regular sight like this.
I see the sunrise with a sight of the snow capped San Bernardina Mountains.
Instead of siren filled nights of Hawthorne and I sleep to sounds of insect chirping and the far away noise of trucks in I-15 climbing to the San Bernandino mountains.
Of not seeing the the Cardboard stucture of South Bay in one of the trashy and yet costliest rented appartment I live in a great house for $220K.
And most important reducing the guilt. The guilt for waking up Rose (who is not a morning person). Making her ride over 140 miles a day to take the ride to work through dangerous roads of LA. Instead I take turns to lessen her load so that she can sleep a bit more in the week. And being a morning person can get up early in the morning and use the public transit...
And funnily if anyone asks you took over 6 hours to come to work and fro I will let them read this.
Will I do it for months... No...
Will I enjoy till it lasts... Offcourse.
